MARCH 9 MEETING
Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel met March 9 at the Ritter Center in Nederland. Representatives from Association Member Benefits Advisors addressed the members about available benefits and distributed literature to those interested. Legislative concerns centered on the governor's request for all state agencies to cut budgets by 5%. Members were concerned about the impact these cuts will have on the TRS health care plan. Members also adopted changes to the unit by-laws. Membership renewals were encouraged
APRIL 13 MEETING
Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel met on April 13 with Anita Harrell presiding in place of President Becky Dungan, who was attending the TRTA state convention in Arlington. Special guest speaker was James Brown, KFDM-TV Channel Six meteorologist. He gave scenarios of area problems that could arise with tropical weather situations as well as with category 4 or 5 hurricanes. He was informative as well as entertaining. Members made plans to attend the annual District 5 Spring Workshop to be held May 7 at First Baptist Church in Nederland. New officers will be installed at the May meeting on May 11.
MAY 11 MEETING
Highlighting the May 11, 2010, meeting of the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel was the installation of officers for the 2010-2011 year. Dana Wasser assumed the role of president, replacing two-term president Rebecca Dungan. Anita Harrell reported on the May 7 Spring Workshop held in Nederland. Membership reports were also given, including the recruitment of newly retired educators and support personnel from the Nederland and Port Neches-Groves districts. Members ended the year with refreshments and a friendly social. Meetings will resume September 14 with a luncheon in honor of new members. Guest speaker will be State Representative Allan Ritter, who will discuss upcoming legislation that will affect both active and retired school personnel.

Eleanor Moore of the Port Arthur YMCA highlighted the November 9 meeting of the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel by informing members of the benefits for seniors provided by the YMCA. Refreshments followed the program. Then the business meeting was conducted by Vice President Jean Butaud. The December meeting will feature Billy Curl, recently retired from PNGISD as assistant superintendent, who will lead the group in Christmas carols. Members will provide Christmas favorites for refreshments.
