Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel is a local unit of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. Our mission is to advocate improved benefits for all education retirees and promote the well-being of our members.
Founded in 1953, the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) is the largest association in the nation for retired teachers with a history of active involvement in the well-being of their communities! With approximately 95,000 members, education retirees in TRTA continue to be involved in local public school education and in the well-being of their communities. In 2018, TRTA members contributed 6,210,972 hours of community volunteer service valued at $156,205,946. Our local unit contributed 33,747 of those hours with a value of $83,215.13 in our communities.
In addition, the TRTA Children’s Book Project, which began in 1998, has involved TRTA local unit members in giving books to children who might not otherwise have books of their own. Since the inception of the book project, more than 800,000 books have been placed into the hands of children who otherwise might never have a book to call their own. In 2018, 135,659 books were distributed as part of the Children’s Book Project and the Student to Student Book Program. Our local unit participated in this state-wide project.
