​MJCRSP Scholarship Program

In 2017 MJCRSP began a scholarship program for graduating seniors at Nederland High School and Port Neches-Groves High School. The scholarships are funded by donations from members and other individuals who support the program. The majority of the funding is derived from ads purchased by local businesses and featured in our yearbook and on our website. Scholarship recipients in 2017 and 2018 received $1000 stipends. Because of the generosity of supporters, stipends were increased to $1200 in 2019. Stipends were increased again in 2020 and 2021 to $1500, Scholarship recipients are featured below.

2024 RECIPIENTS

.Kinsey Tran of PNG plans to attend Lamar University and major in biology/pre-optometry. Kinsey ranked fourth in her class of 378 students. She was a member of the National Honor Society and also belonged to Key Club. In addition to being co-captain of the tennis team, she also participated in Citizen Bee, Physics Club, History Club, Spanish Club, as well as Indians Give, Freshmen Orientation, ASL, and Association of Indian Athletes. Kinsey also was active in community service through blood drives, Hope Clinic donations, Trunk or Treat, as well as food drives, animal shelter donations, and food drives.

After graduating from Nederland High School, Le plans to enroll at Lamar University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. He ranked ninth in his class of 333 students. In high school Ngoc was active in student council, Key Club, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and basketball. He served the community through school outreach programs and church activities, such as donations of hygiene products to prisoners and the homeless, toys and clothes to donation centers, Thanksgiving items for families in need and other charitable endeavors. He also lettered in basketball and received varsity-level athletic and academic all-district awards.

2023 RECIPIENTS

After graduating from Nederland High School, Ava Whitehead will attend Lamar University to major in engineering. In high school she was a student council officer, in the National Honor Society, and participated in soccer, volleyball, and track. She contributed to her community outside the classroom by serving as a volunteer at a soup kitchen, placed flags in the yards of veterans on patriotic holidays, baked cookies and sold them at a fundraiser for breast cancer patients, made cards and treats for nursing home residents, and was very active in her church activities

John Bergeron, a PNG graduate, will also attend Lamar University to major in chemical engineering. John played trumpet in the Indian Band, was  a member of the All-Region Band, was an All-Region Jazz Trumpeter, and a member of the All-State Trumpet Quartet. A member of the UIL Science Team, he also was treasurer of the Physics Club. As an Eagle Scout, John collected 108 hours of community service. He served as Senior Patrol Leader and  Troop Guide among other positions. He belonged to Mid-Jefferson 4-H Club, serving as an officer, and participated in Adaptive Sports for Kids.

​Tate Sandell of Port Neches-Groves High School  plans to attend University of Texas at San Antonio and is considering business as his major. He has participated in  a variety of school organizations including football and soccer, Indians Give, and Association of Indian Athletes. He received all-district and academic all-district honors in both football and soccer. He was also active in both church and community.

​After graduating from Nederland High School, Ian Rothenberger will attend Lamar University to major in history with the goal of becoming a teacher. In high school he was a member of Key Club, UIL academics and music, National Honor Society, and French Honor Society. He was a four year member of AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), a nationwide program. He competed in UIL academics at the district and state levels, advancing to the state level in UIL Congressional Debate, serving as captain of the team.

Breelyn Brittain of PNG plans to attend Lamar University and earn a degree in education. She has participated in  a variety of school organization including  Indianettes, as a lieutenant. She is a member of the National Honor Society and belongs the Fellowship of Young Adults.  She also contributed to her community by helping with hurricane clean-up and as a Special Olympics helper.

​After graduating from Nederland High School, Langning Luo will attend Texas University in Austin to major in biochemistry. Active in school and community activities during her high school years, she has been in the All-Region band, a member of the l UIL Calculator and Mathematics team, and historian of the National Honor Society and a member of the National Spanish Honor Society. She volunteered at her church and  at the local public library, the Nederland Heritage Festival, and local food drives and recycling initiatives.

2020 RECIPIENTS

​Jake Plante of PNG plans to attend Lamar University and earn three degrees: chemical engineering, business, and Spanish. He has participated in Lamar’s Intro to Engineering Program.  In high school Jake was a member of the football, tennis, swimming, and fishing teams. An honor student, he was a member of the National Honor Society and a member of Key Club. In addition, Student Council, G-Crew, Indians Give, among other activities, kept him active on campus. He also contributed to his community during RiverFest, Hurricane Harvey clean-up, the Beaumont Children’s Museum, and other places and events, amassing approximately 975 service hours.

After graduating from Nederland High School, Savannah Moore plans to enroll at Texas A&M in College Station to pursue a degree in kinesiology, so she could eventually work with children as a pediatric  physical therapist to better their lives. Savannah was active in school, community, and church activities throughout her high school years. She was especially involved in the high school band, serving on the band council and the honors band, eventually as co-head twirler and drum major. She belonged to the National Honor Society, Terrific Nederland Teens, and Spanish Honor Society. She also volunteered at her church and the local public library, and also during Hurricane Harvey recovery.

An accomplished musician at Nederland High School, Gavin Lopez will seek further education in music at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.  As a high school senior he was a member of the TMEA all-State Jazz Band. An honor roll student throughout high school, Gavin was also a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. After college, Gavin desires to spread his passion for music to students.

After graduating from Port Neches-Groves High School, Dylan Brittain will enroll at the University of Texas-San Antonio where he will pursue a degree in chemical engineering. In high school Dylan participated basketball, soccer, track, football, Key Club, French Club, Earth Club, and is a member of the National Honor Society. After college Dylan plans to return to Southeast Texas to raise a family and contribute to his local community.                           ​

Cassie Schumacher is a graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School. She attends Texas A&M University and majors in community health. While in high school she was active in band and drill team, serving as captain her senior year. She was a member of the National Honor Society (reporter), Texas Association of Future Educators, and PNG Indians Give Service Organization, among many other organizations both on campus and in the community.

Nederland High School graduate Rachel Morrison  majors in education at East Texas Baptist University, where she was recruited to participate in cross country and track. In high school Rachel participated in track, cross country, and band (twirler). She was also a member of the Criminal Justice Club

Ethan Landry received the 2017 MJCRSP scholarship at Nederland High School. Ethan enrolled at Lamar University in Beaumont as a nursing major. His goal was to become a nurse practitioner. In high school he was a member of the soccer team, earning distinction as team captain, all-district, and a Beaumont Enterprise Super Gold Athlete. He was also a member of Key Club and the FFA Show Team.

Levi Dalton Droddy was the recipient of the first MJCRSP scholarship for a Port Neches-Groves High School graduate. After graduation Dalton enrolled at Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in chemical engineering. While in high school Dalton was active in a variety of activities: football, drama club, HOSA, UIL science, among others. He graduated in the top 10% of his class and was chosen Most Popular Senior Boy.
