JANUARY 12 MEETING Meeting Summary Newsletter
The January meeting of the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel was called to order by President Gail Krohn. The speaker, introduced by Dianne Trevey, was Wayne Moore of the Christus health System, who discussed Christus' health programs in Jefferson County. Also in attendance was R.A. Hidalgo, District 5 president, and his wife Charlotte. Hidalgo summarized legislative concerns for retirees in the next session of the Texas legislature. Officers for 2016-2017 were elected as follows: Lynne James, president; Linda Harrison, 1st vice president; Donna Lumpkin, secretary, and Mary Beth McDuff, treasurer. The position of 2nd vice president will be filled at a later date. Delegates to the TRTA state convention in April will be Lynne James, Linda Fong, Clara Graham, and Becky Dungan. Refreshments were served by Rose Reese (chairman), Linda Briggs, Becky Dungan, and Linda Fong. The next meeting will be held on February 9 with Dr. Betty Reynard, president of Lamar State College-Port Arthur, presenting the program.

Gail Krohn presided at the May meeting of the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel on May 5, 2016. Refreshments were served by Linda Pinner (chairman), Wanda Borne, Olive Hall, and Loretta Morman. Reports from the TRTA state convention were given by Lynne James, Dana Wasser, and Linda Fong. The major emphasis was on legislative items, health care, and the Foundation (TRTF). Officers for 2016-2017 were installed by Richard Briggs. They are (left to right) Linda Harrison, First Vice President; Lynne James, President; Donna Lumpkin, Treasurer; Patricia Allen, Second Vice President; and Loretta Morman, Treasurer. The next meeting will be the annual fall luncheon on September 13 honoring recent retirees of the Nederland and Port Neches-Groves school districts.

State Representative Dade Phelan addressed members and guests of the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel at their annual fall luncheon honoring new retirees of the Nederland and Port Neches-Groves school districts. Phelan spoke about issues anticipated in the upcoming 2017 legislative session, especially items of special interest to local educators and retirees as well as issues related to Southeast Texas and the coastal area. President Lynne James presided at the business meeting following the program. Hostesses included Beverly Minaldi, Candye Martin, Rosalie Reese, Candice Zummo, and Linda Pinner. Special guests included June White, District 5 President; Charles Starcke, District 5 Legislative Chair; Jennifer Pate, District Director for Senator Brandon Creighton; local elected officers; and school administrators from Nederland and Port Neches-Groves school districts. The next meeting will be on October 11 at the Ritter Senior Center in Nederland. Brian Perkins, Aetna representative for TRS Care, will be the speaker.

Aetna representative Brian Perkins spoke to members and guests at the October 11 meeting of Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel. He explained changes in the current TRS health care program serviced by Aetna and answered questions following the presentation. President Lynne James presided at the business meeting following the program. Hostesses included Candye Martin, Beulah Thompson, Linda Harrison, Jolene Lemaire, and Helen Reynolds. The next meeting will be on November 8 at the Ritter Senior Center in Nederland. Stephanie Harren of the Museum of the Gulf Coast will be the speaker.

The band Redeemed provided Christmas music to members of Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel at the December meeting. Refreshments were provided by the members and the hospitality committee provided decorations, beverages, and paper goods. Members of the refreshment committee included Rosalie Reese (chairman), Becky Dungan, Linda Fong, and Linda Briggs. President Lynne James presided at the business meeting at which time members elected officers for 2017. They are President, Lynne James; First Vice President, Linda Harrison; Second Vice President, Patricia Allen; Secretary, Donna Lumpkin; and Treasurer, Loretta Morman. Delegates to the state convention in March are Lynne James, Patricia Allen, Clara Graham, Wanda Borne, and Linda Pinner. Becky Dungan and Dana Wasser will serve as alternates. Patricia Allen and members of the Children's Book Project Committee presented 203 books to fourth grade students at Port Neches Elementary. The next meeting will be on January 10, 2017, with David Long of Calder Woods Retirement Living presenting the program.
