FEBRUARY 14 MEETING Meeting Summary Newsletter
Shaun Davis, Director of the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission, presented the program at the February 14 meeting of the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel. Members became aware of the many services of the commission and how those services touch the lives of everyone in the area. Refreshments were provided by the hospitality committee, including Candice Zummo (chairman), Dianne Trevey, Gail Krohn and Donna Lumpkin. President Lynne James presided at the business meeting. She informed those in attendance that the scholarship project was a big success and that scholarships will be awarded to two high school seniors in May, one at Nederland High School and one at Port Neches-Groves High School. Scholarship applications are available in the counselor's office at each high school, from a member of MJCRSP, and online at the unit website (see above). The next meeting will be on March 14, 2017, with a representative of the Effie and Wilton Hebert Public Library in Port Neches presenting information about adult education offerings at the library. Delegates to the TRTA state convention in March are Linda Pinner, Clara Graham, Patricia Allen, Wanda Borne, and Lynne James.
MARCH 14 MEETING Meeting Summary Newsletter
Chelsea Moore of the Effie and Wilton Hebert Public Library in Port Neches gave the program at the March 14, 2017, meeting of the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel. Members became aware of the many services of the library, especially those available to senior citizens. Refreshments were provided by the hospitality committee, including Candice Zummo (chairman), Dianne Trevey, Gail Krohn, and Donna Lumpkin. President Lynne James presided at the business meeting. Linda Harrison gave the report of the membership committee, indicating that 58 members had already paid dues during the first two weeks of the new membership year. Lynne James gave a report of the scholarship committee after which members voted to award two $750 scholarships this May, one to a graduating senior at Nederland High School and one to a graduating senior at Port Neches- Groves High School. Plans were announced to welcome TRTA Executive Director Tim Lee to our April 11 meeting. Members are invited to share lunch with Mr. Lee at the Wheelhouse Restaurant in Port Neches at 11:15 AM prior to the 1:30 PM meeting on April 11. Delegates to the TRTA state convention in Austin March 27-29 are Linda Pinner, Clara Graham, Patricia Allen, Wanda Borne, and Lynne James.
APRIL 11 MEETING Meeting Summary Newsletter
TRTA Executive Director Tim Lee addressed the MJCRSP local unit of TRTA on April 11 at the Hebert Public Library in Port Neches. Sixty-three members and guests attended. Introduced by MJCRSP Legislative Chair Richard Briggs, Lee was welcomed with a "rowdy" standing ovation. He spoke to the group about the current status of TRS-Care, what bills are currently on file with the Texas House and Senate, and where we are headed if nothing is done to pre-fund retiree health care. Following his presentation, refreshments were served by Linda Pinner (chair), Loretta Morman, Wanda Borne, and Olive Hall. President Lynne James presided over a brief business meeting. The next meeting will be May 9 at the Ritter Center. Gail Krohn, immediate past president, will install the officers.
MAY 9 MEETING Meeting Summary Newsletter
MJCRSP Past President Gail Krohn installed officers for the 2017-2018 business year. Installed were President Lynne James, First Vice President Linda Harrison, Second Vice President Patricia Allen, Recording Secretary Donna Lumpkin, and Treasurer Loretta Morman (in absentia). Following the installation, refreshments were served by Linda Pinner (chair), Wanda Borne, and Olive Hall. President Lynne James presided over a brief business meeting. Scholarship recipients from Nederland High School and Port Neches-Groves High School will be honored on May 16 and 17 at their respective schools. Local unit awards were presented. They include Dixie Tucker (Volunteer Service), Becky Dungan (Yearbook), Linda Harrison (Membership Chair), Beulah Thompson (Membership Support), Loretta Morman (Treasurer/Membership Support), Patricia Allen (Children's Book Project), Donna Lumpkin (Recording Secretary), Richard Briggs (Legislative Chair), Linda Briggs (Program Chair), Helen Reynolds (Health Care Chair), Linda Fong (Informative & Protective Services Chair), and Martha Godwin (Scholarship Program). The next meeting will be September 12 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Nederland. Honored guests will include recent retirees. State Representative Dade Phelan will be the program speaker.

MJCRSP met on November 14, 2017, at the Ritter Senior Center in Nederland. President Lynne James presented the program about the upcoming changes in TRS retiree insurance. The hospitality committee with Candye Martini (chair), Linda Harrison, Beulah Thompson, Jolene Lemaire, and Helen Reynolds provided refreshments. Linda Harrison reported that our membership had reached an all-time high at 315 members. The next meeting will be December 12 at the Ritter Senior Center in Nederland. The program will be presented by County Commissioner Brent Weaver, who will address challenges the county faces resulting from Hurricane Harvey. Hostesses for the meeting will be Rosalie Reese (chair), Becky Dungan, Linda Fong, Linda Briggs, and Dana Wasser. Following the meeting holiday treats will be delivered to MCT Credit Union and the Port Neches Public Library for their assistance in publishing our newsletter.
DECEMBER 12 MEETING Meeting Summary Newsletter
County Commissioner Brent Weaver addressed the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel at their December 12, 2017, meeting at the Ritter Senior Center in Nederland. President Lynne James presided over the business meeting, which followed the program. The hospitality committee of Rosalie Reese (chair), Becky Dungan, Linda Fong, Linda Briggs, and Dana Wasser provided refreshments. Following the meeting holiday treats were delivered to MCT Credit Union and the Port Neches Public Library for their assistance in publishing our newsletter. The January 9 meeting will feature Angela Bernard of the Jefferson County Appraisal District, who will speak to the group about property evaluations following Hurricane Harvey.
