NOVEMBER 12 MEETING Meeting Summary Newsletter
WWII veteran and POW Don Clotiaux spoke to MJCRSP members on November 12, the day after Veterans' Day. He recounted his experiences as a ball-turret gunner on a B-24 bomber based in Italy during WWII. While everything he recalled was very informative, one of the most interesting accounts came when he explained how he managed to get into his parachute when his plane was shot down in German-occupied territory. He was the only member of his crew who did not wear a parachute because there was no room for it in the turret. Therefore, once the plane met enemy fire, he had to exit the turret before donning the parachute. Members of his family attended the meeting and watched proudly as he was presented a certificate of appreciation from Program Chair Beverly Minaldi, expressing the members' appreciation for his service and his presentation. A donation was made to the scholarship fund in his honor. In addition, he received a US flag that had flown over the Capitol in Washington, D.C. During the business meeting, members were encouraged to collect volunteer hours served during 2019 that are to be submitted to TRTA in January. At the December 8 meeting, the 2020-21 slate of officers will be presented. Elections will be held in January.
