Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel met January 10, 2023, at the Port Neches ISD Administration Building with MJCRSP President Charlie Jehlen presiding. The program "Storytellers" was presented by member Donna Lumpkin. Legislative chair Richard Briggs reminded members to keep up with the status of a potential COLA for retirees through the Inside Line. Volunteer hours were being collected by Candye Martin. Shanna Briggs, Regional Manager for the Alzheimers' Association will present the February program.
FEBRUARY 14, 2023 Newsletter Minutes
The February 14 meeting of the Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel was held at the PNGISD Administration Building with President Charlie Jehlen presiding. First Vice President Becky Dungan reported on the membership drive beginning March 1. Lynne James reminded members to make plans for the District 5 Spring Conference on May 5. Second Vice President Cathy Purgahn announced that books would be presented to fourth graders at Groves Elementary in the following week. The program for the March 14 meeting will be presented by Lisa Boler, founder and CEO of Harvest House Ministry.
MJCRSP President Charlie Jehlen presided at the March meeting. Health Chair Helen Reynolds informed members that our pharmacy benefits will change from Silver Scripts to Express Scripts in January 2023. Becky Dungan reported 95,000 TRTA members, up from COVID. Book Project Chair Cathy Purgahn reported that 211 books had been donated to fourth graders at Groves Elementary. Lynne James, nominations chair, moved that Tricia Kimball assume the job as chapter treasurer in July. She will be installed in May. Richard Briggs announced that all bills had been filed in the legislature and things are "looking good" for a TRS COLA! President Jehlen announced that the retiree luncheon for 2022 and 2023 retirees will be held at Bonne Vie on November 14. Lisa Boler, founder and CEO of Harvest House, was the guest speaker. She shared information about sex trafficking in Southeast Texas and what Harvest House was doing to curb it.

Charlie Jehlen presided at the business meeting held May 9 at the PNGISD administration building. Cathy Purgahn asked members for program suggestions for the 2023-2024 chapter year. Volunteer Chair Candye Martin announced certificates for members who reach 2100 volunteer hours during 2022: Michael Benson, Barbara Black, Beverly Cavender, Pam Choate, and Linda Harrison. Scholarship Chair Linda Briggs reported that Charlie Jehlen, Thad Borne, and Donna Lumpkin had presented the Wanda Borne Memorial Scholarship to Ava Whitehead at the Nederland High School Awards program. The Port Neches-Groves winner would be announced later. The meeting culminated in the installation of officers for 2023-2024. Past President Lynne James conducted the installation.
