 Angela Bellard of the Jefferson County Appraisal District spoke to MJCRSP members about the effects of Hurricane Harvey on home appraisals. She emphasized the importance of documenting storm damage with pictures. Hostesses for the meeting included Rosalie Reese (chair), Linda Briggs, Linda Fong, Becky Dungan, and Dana Wasser. During the business meeting Membership Chair Linda Harrison reported 315 local unit members but 342 members counting those who joined the state organization only. Delegates to the 2018 state convention at La Cantera Resort in San Antonio are Lynne James, Loretta Morman, Linda Briggs, Donna Lumpkin, and Richard Briggs. Becky Dungan and Clara Graham will serve as alternates. 2018-2019 officers elected include Lynne James, president; Linda Harrison, first vice president; Linda Briggs, second vice president; Donna Lumpkin, secretary; and Loretta Morman, treasurer. The next meeting is scheduled for February 13 with Diane LaPour of Quality Tax Services presenting the program. Scholarship application forms will be available at the meeting.

Diane LaPour of Quality Tax Services in Nederland informed members of the new tax laws at the February 13 meeting of Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel. Volunteer Chairman Beulah Thompson reported that members had accumulated 23,490 volunteer hours in 2017, valued at $579,263.40 in our communities. Carolyn Worsham had the most volunteer hours. Membership Chair Linda Harrison reported 315 local unit members for 2017 and 12 who had either joined or renewed prior to the March 1 start of the new membership year. Legislative issues and the upcoming primary elections were also part of the meeting agenda. The next meeting will be on March 1 with floral designer Scott Hasty presenting the program.

Floral designer Scott Hasty enthralled the audience as he created four floral arrangements at the March 13 meeting of Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel. Following the program, he awarded four members with a beautiful arrangements to take home. During the business meeting, Membership Chair Linda Harrison reported 75 members had already joined or renewed membership since the beginning of the new membership year. Ken Blanda, Executive Director of Bonne Vie, spoke briefly about the new senior living facility soon to open on Medical Center Blvd. in Port Arthur. Members voted to hold their annual fall luncheon honoring new retirees from Nederland and Port Neches-Groves districts in the  meeting room of the new facility. The next meeting will be on April 10 with Master Gardner Ann Abares presenting the program.  Winners of floral arrangements from left to right are Linda Harrison (for Curtis Harrison), Rosalie Reese, Linda Pinner, and Linda Briggs  with Scott Hasty looking on.

Master Gardeners Ann Abares and Dot Norris presented the program at the April 10  meeting of Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel. Following the program, refreshments were served by the April hostesses: Linda Pinner (chair), Wanda Borne, Olive Hall, and Beverly Minaldi. Vice President Linda Harrison presided over the business meeting.  The membership committee reported that 132 members had either joined or renewed their membership in the first month of the 2018-2019 membership drive. Delegates to the state convention were not in attendance due to the convention being held April 8-10 in San Antonio. Members made arrangements to host the District 5 Spring Leadership Conference on May 4 in Nederland. The next meeting will be on May 8. On the agenda are reports from the delegates to the TRTA state convention and from those attending the Spring Leadership Conference.

Emphasizing the leadership qualities of Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Past President Gail Krohn installed officers for 2018-2019: President Lynne James, First Vice President Linda Harrison, Secretary Donna Lumpkin, Second Vice President Linda Briggs, and Treasurer Loretta Morman. 
Prior to the business meeting Tina Bradley, local candidate for district judge, addressed the members. Reports were given by the following committees: membership, retirement education, health care, programs, scholarships, and yearbook. The unit's 2017-2018 goals were reviewed and unit awards were presented. The next meeting will be on September 11 at Bonne Vie Care Facility in Port Arthur. Members will attend the facility's open house on June 7. Hostesses included Linda Pinner, Wanda Borne, Olive Hall, and Loretta Morman.

Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel honored recent retirees from Nederland ISD and Port Neches-Groves ISD at a luncheon meeting hosted by Bonne Vie Care Facility in Port Arthur. TRTA Legislative Coordinator Bill Barnes was the guest speaker. He advised the group of important issues facing the next legislative session, which convenes in January 2019. As part of the business meeting, members were awarded gift cards as part of the current membership drive. Lucky winners include Marsha Comer, Dorothy Amy, Jack Lynch, Beverly Terrell, Becky Viator, and Linda Howard-Moore. Newly retired member Lori Halbert received  free dues for joining and being present at the luncheon. The next meeting is scheduled for October 9 at Bonne Vie, with the luncheon beginning at 11:30 followed by a presentation by State Representative Dade Phelan.

Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel welcomed State Representative Dade Phelan at their October luncheon meeting hosted by Bonne Vie Care Facility in Port Arthur. Phelan reviewed some of the highlights of the 2017 legislative session and addressed issues relative to education retirees that are expected in the session beginning in January 2019. Among the invited guests were administrators from Nederland and Port Neches-Groves ISDs. The next meeting is scheduled for November 13 at the Ritter Senior Center in Nederland  beginning at 1:30 pm. Hostesses include Candye Martin (chair), Linda Harrison, Beulah Thompson, and Jolene LeMaire.

​Dallas Mullins, AMBA representative for District V, gave a very informative presentation to Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel at their November meeting. Mullins discussed some of the many benefits available to education retirees who are TRTA members. Members will meet next on December 11 to play Bingo! November hostesses included Candye Martin (chair), Linda Harrison, Beulah Thompson, and Jolene LeMaire.

​Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel met December 11, 2018, at the Ritter Senior Center  in Nederland. Following a brief business meeting, members played Bingo. Candy Martin was the caller, and she was assisted by Linda Harrison and Jolene LeMaire. Winners were given a candy cane! Hostesses included Rose Reese (chair), Linda Briggs, Linda Fong, Becky Dungan, and Dana Wasser. The next meeting will be held on January 8, 2019, with Barbara Boone of Airport Travel presenting the program.
